Brief History:
Rolling out of the factory on April 8th, 1968, this 912 was soon after shipped from Copenhagen to San Francisco - a California car from the start. Originally painted Sand Beige, somewhere along the way it was resprayed in silver and the original flat four engine was swapped for a 2.7 liter flat six. A typical childhood dream of one day owning a Porsche (Ferraris were too flashy), led us to this particular example in 2012. Already far from its original state, its mongrel status was appealing as it could be driven and enjoyed without worrying too much about value or rarity. Inspired by Porsche’s rallying program from the late 60’s and early 70’s, a sports purpose refresh was undertaken over the years to include an engine and suspension rebuild and upgrade, stronger brakes, more precise shifter, and a sports exhaust. Period correct interior refinements include RS style door cards, radio, ashtray, cigarette lighter, and clock delete, ST style fixed-back seats, square weave carpets, and a first generation Momo Prototipo steering wheel. The car is taken out regularly for spirited drives on mountain roads with like-minded friends, track days at local raceways, and even the more mundane school drop-offs and pick-ups. Every drive is an adventure, and it is a Porsche that is driven hard and often, as they all should be.
