In July of 2022, I assumed the role of caretaker for this 1972 Ölklappe Targa, marking the beginning of a heartfelt journey for my family and me. The 911, procured from Paul Kramer at AutoKennel in Costa Mesa, stood as a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence in automotive representation. Boasting impeccable provenance, accompanied by meticulous records and historical insights curated by Paul, this Targa exemplified what I was looking for.
Despite its stellar performance, the exterior paint exhibited signs of wear, prompting a transformative restoration project initiated under the guidance of a seasoned family member renowned for his success in reviving classic European automobiles. This endeavor involved a comprehensive overhaul, from stripping the vehicle to its bare metal to replacing seals and executing a professional respray using the original Glasurit Silber Metallic hue. The invaluable assistance provided by family and friends proved indispensable in rejuvenating the Targa's timeless allure, with even my 11-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son lending their hands in the endeavor.
While additional minor projects have been undertaken to restore the car to its authentic state, my foremost joy has been derived from piecing together narratives from previous custodians and embarking on exhilarating drives through the winding canyons of Southern and Central California.
