Significant accomplishments…

1979 Runoff’s Road Atlanta E Production lap record
1980 Central Division Champion
1981 SCCA National Champion
18 SCCA National Championship Runoff races
Drivers: John O’Steen and David Helmick
Dr David Helmick began racing #83901 in 1967, qualifying for the SCCA Runoffs in each of the next five years, after which John O’Steen purchased the car. Initially, O’Steen raced #83901 only occasionally while both he and Helmick participated seriously in other racing venues with podium finishes at numerous endurance racing events, including class wins at Sebring, Daytona and Le Mans. In 1979, O’Steen began a determined effort to win the E Production National Championship. He quickly became a consistent frontrunner, winning the National Championship in 1981. Dr. Helmick later repurchased the car and qualified for the Runoffs every year through 1989 with multiple podium finishes – totaling a 23-year run for #83901 before (semi) retirement.
Was fully restored to a street-legal race car in 2009-11 by highly regarded 356 expert, Roy Smalley, of Eurowerks in Campbell, Texas.
