Brief History:

Our 1953 356 Pre-A America Coupe started life with the Crowleys in 1986. The six month restoration took place from January to July of 1987. By personalizing it, we unintentionally created one of the earliest 356 Outlaws. Always an Arizona car, she was desirably rust free. When purchased for under $3000, she sat outside under two tarps, had grass a foot high all arounnd, was home to spider webs, birds' nests, had only the two seats, overspray on the dash, and a black naugahyde headliner that sagged down a foot or more. With 3 changes of spark plugs, oil and fresh gas, we could drive it home. A "driver", yes, but definitely with needs. The headliner was the first priority which necessitated taking the glass out. Without the glass, we decided to paint it. Before the paint, might as well do the bodywork to make room for the customized wheels to come. The other personal touches include: Wheels are made from Ford truck "dually" rims (7X16) reversed, chromed, then welded with the correct centers, then painted to match the body Rear body widened to accept wheels/tires (a95/50-16. Carrera-style louvres in engine lid. 1968 912 engine with 1750 cc Big Bore Kit & Weber 40 IDF carbs. Creme-Beige paint, indoor household carpeting, tinted glass, and Ultra Suede creme headliner. Aircraft seat belts with inlaid wood rotary buckles. Hood handle removed to accentuate the pure, clean lines. Some of the factory features of this early car are: Bent windshield (latter half of 1952 to the A model in 1956. According to its wiring harness, it is a '52 forward and '53 rearward of the dash. FULL Corduroy interior (1953 Only) "Beehive" taillights and front turn signals. Telefunken vertical-button radio in steel dash. Raised wooden floorboards. Headlights, rocker panels, and rear wheel arches are lower than later cars, giving the appearance of the car being lowered, which it is not. Historical highlights include: Since the '87 restoration, she has been driven over 85,000 miles. Its first car show: birds' nests, spiders, paper still on the engine, doors wouldn't close, no glovebox, steering wheel fell off. Since it had to be flat-bedded to the event, it had to be entered in Full Councours...Received a 1st Place trophy...No other cars in its class. "The Pimpmobile" nickname came after an award was given for "The Car You Would Most Want to Have Sex In' at the 356 Holiday at Crested Buttes, Colorado. Featured in December 2009 Excellence magazine's series on Outlaws. Owner laid under the car installing a new wiring harness 1 month after his triple-bypass surgery. Rallyed by Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy at an Arizona Governor's Cup (Costumes were worn by all the entrants). "Famous" 1:00 am breakdown on California's Highway 1 at Ragged Point. 1989 356 Registry's Holiday "Overall Peoples' Choice. 2011 PCA Escape "Best of Show". Wolfgang and Peter Porsche have been very complimentary. We hope you enjoy the car as much as we have.
