Brief History:
George Batcabe raced this Speedster in SCCA, PCA and club races in the Akron Ohio region from 1961-1963. He ran hundreds of laps and scored numerous race wins. In September 1963, on the way to the 200-mile enduro at Elkhart Lake, the car was damaged during transport. With a young family and career demanding his time, George was not able to perform the necessary repairs.
The Speedster remained in inoperable condition until 2012 - 2013 when restoration of the car to its previous racing condition began. The car was brought back to life in 2015, just in time to participe in Rennsport Reunion V. George, still anxious to race, then ran the car in the 2016 and 2017 Monterey Rolex Historics. After its rebirth, it (and George) also raced in various California and Oregon club races.
At 92 years of age, and only one year removed from his most recent race, George decided that after 60 years under his stewardship it was time for the Speedster to find its next home. Under the trust of its new owners and with a new shop to take care of it (Scott’s Independent in Anaheim, CA), both of whom are committed to honoring this Speedster’s racing heritage, this car is ready for the next chapter in its history. The interior and exterior have been freshened up a bit, including hand painted numbers, stripes and logos by Valentina Trentini of Brushetta Signs. The mechanics have received updating as necessary, but the soul of the car remains. Our hope is that George, who is now 93, will attend Air/Water and, later this year the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion where he will get to enjoy the attention his Speedster will receive while watching Chris Mayring curve up the track.
